Boating Safely
57Arizona Has Stepped up to the Plate on Boat Safety
The news was getting too full of boating accident reports and Arizona Game and Fish had to come up with a solution. As good as it is, though, only the people can make it work. What have they done? They have free boating safety training available on their websites and to publicize them, they have created several short but interesting videos.
In a bold move for a government agency to take, they have also enlisted the help of "posties" and "sparkies" by which names the bloggers at Pay Per Post and Social Spark are known. I hope this works out well for them, because the word needs to get out, and bloggers are outgoing and social and usually have large networks of friends. Since I live in Arizona, I was eligible to accept a paid opportunity to describe their efforts on my blog, and yes, I did accept that assignment. However, ever since then I have been going around using as many platforms as I can find to promote the same message for free. I am not the only one, as I noticed that a blogger from Germany also volunteered to talk about boating safety issues. She wrote that water safety is important everywhere and that the information on the Arizona web pages should be of interest to everyone.
I agree, and if you do not boat yourself, I'll bet you have a friend who does.

A Nice Place to Boat but a Terrible Place to Die

This is timely in Australia, too - we have had a couple of fatal accidents in Sydney Harbour in the last few months. It's such a huge, calm stretch of water that you wonder how anyone can collide - but it's also a busy working harbour with a mixture of fishing boats, ferries, visiting ocean liners, yachts, pleasure boats, etc, etc. People forget that, especially if they're tempted out in their little runabout on a balmy summer's night.
